Natural Perfumery is the art of skillfully blending essences from citrus fruit, seeds, herbs, leaves, flowers, spices, resins, roots, mosses and woods into an evocative form that can elicit an emotional response.
Just like the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly, once the essences are blended, a tranformation or synergy occurs. A synergy is an interaction of two or more agents or forces where the combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects. Once the bottle is opened, this magical synergistic vapor escapes to unlock hidden memories, feelings & desires in yourself or those in your intimate circle. Let the mating games begin.
Hi, I’m Suzy Larsen, your natural perfumer. Nice to meet you and thanks for visiting www.nakedleaf.ca. I want to tell you a bit about what I do and the different paths I’ve chosen in my personal and professional life. Since I believe that each perfume carries the spiritual stamp of its creator, it’s nice to know where your perfumer has walked.
Becoming certified in Aromatherapy from Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was a significant step in fostering my love of perfumery. Although we learned intimately the therapeutic potential of essential oils, I was always attracted to the artistic creation of perfumes. From that point on I remember making Signature Scents for everyone who crossed my path. This was the seed to embarking on my own natural perfumery business.
My love for astrology goes much deeper than daily horoscopes and who matches up with whom. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, insisted his students study astrology, saying, "He who does not understand astrology is not a doctor but a fool." Although I'm not a doctor and do not dare to prescribe, when I create an Astrological Signature Scent, I do analyze the astrological chart for clues as to the most appropriate essences to use in your blend mainly to help balance your constitution but also to give you something beautiful that is undeniably you.
Later I studied with the Alive Academy of Natural Health to become a Registered Nutritional Consultant. Biochemistry plus Anatomy & Physiology courses helped me understand the effects incompatible substances like transfats, dyes, and additives have on the body. By this time I was committed to living a healthy lifestyle and choosing natural products.
I’m very concerned nowadays about the value of substances that enter our body through inhalation, ingestion and absorption as well as those that enter the environment through pollution. And although I do believe there is merit to going green with personal products for health of the body and the planet, that's not my focus for this site. I ultimately decided that I wanted to highlight the positive, artistic, mystical, and transformational aspect of perfume. Of course you'll have the benefit of knowing that your perfume is free from harmful synthetics; and it will also adhere to aesthetic principles where beauty is the ideal.
Creating perfumes, along with raising my spirited child, Madeleine Coco, has been my joy and much needed artistic retreat from left-brained activity. When I get down to the business of making perfumes, I let my heart connect and my spirit soar then something magical happens.
My wish is that you can feel or "listen" to your perfume and hear the message it might have for you.
